FARMVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Tonight, the Farmville commissioners will discuss a new library logo and a proposed formal policy for the public comment period during town meetings moving forward.

Tonight’s meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at town hall, where commissioners are expected to vote on a new library logo.

The Farmville Library logo has been a point of contention in town due to comments made by residents suggesting the design represents the LGBTQ+ community.

The Farmville Library Board of Trustees met last month to discuss changing the logo, a decision Mayor Alex Joyner argued needed public discussion.

Town Manager Andrew Delonno told WITN that the library was asked to update its logo to align with Farmville’s branding, not because it featured rainbow colors. The agenda says all town departments were asked to follow suit after the town’s rebranding.

Tonight’s agenda also includes a proposed policy for the public comment period during town meetings. The guidelines suggest formal time restrictions and a limit on the number of people who can speak about a certain topic.

The proposal says speakers will be given three minutes to share their thoughts. If more than three people want to speak about the same subject, the proposal says they should choose a designated speaker to speak for all parties.

While the proposal suggests a 15-minute default public comment period, commissioners can vote to extend it to a total of 30 minutes.

The policy and logo designs can be found in the meeting agenda.
