HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Halifax County woman is accused of embezzling more than $400,000 from her father’s farm over two decades ago.

Sarah Sykes was arrested yesterday on five counts of embezzlement and one count of embezzlement of $100,000 or more.

Halifax County deputies say the investigation began late last year after they received a report that a former employee had embezzled money from an employer’s bank accounts.

Warrants show that Sykes stole about $426,739 from Jack H. Winslow Farms, Inc. between 1997 and 2002. Online records show she served as an officer of the farm during that time.

An obituary for Jack Winslow, the farm’s founder, identifies Sykes as his daughter.

The 58-year-old Sykes posted a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 23.
