OUTER BANKS, N.C. (WITN) - A young stallion was hit and killed on the beach just after midnight on Saturday.
According to the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Shannon Seamster of Carova hit a horse near Mile Post 19 near Nags Head with her Tahoe.
The 5-year-old stallion Alexander was killed on impact. Officials say Seamster was arrested for DWI.
According to the Corolla Wild Horse Fund, Alexander was a very special young horse and the last of his mother’s offspring. They say his genetics can never be replaced, and in a critically endangered population, they had hoped he would carry on the family line.
Seamster was given a $2,500 secured bond.
