POLICE: Body found in New Bern woods
NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) - A spokesperson for New Bern’s Police Department says detectives are on scene after a body was found Monday evening.
At around 8:00 p.m. officers were dispatched to the area of Hotel Drive near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in response to a report of a deceased person.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a deceased male in a wooded area near the 2400 block of Griffin Avenue, between Tryon Estates Apartments and Smithfield’s Chicken ‘N Bar-B-Q.
Police say that their findings indicate that this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time.
Officials say they were dispatched to the scene after someone in a parking lot near a Tesla charging station noticed the foul smell at around 7:30 p.m.
First responders including EMS and New Bern’s Forensic Unit had the body covered and transported in a CarolinaEast ambulance.
This is still an active investigation.
