GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - East Carolina University says it has closed a hazing investigation into a fraternity.
Last month, as part of a WITN First Alert Investigation, we learned of multiple hazing allegations against Phi Kappa Tau.
ECU’s Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities received the anonymous allegations in February.
Today, ECU says the allegations were not substantiated, and the matter is closed. The university says they can reopen the inquiry if new information becomes available.
Phi Kappa Tau was suspended in 2018 when police said they seized more than 2,500 Xanax bars from the fraternity house. The fraternity was allowed to return in the spring of 2023.
