Teacher of the Week: Meet Michael Cannon

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - WITN gets to highlight educators in the area every Wednesday morning thanks to your nominations. This week, we want you to meet Michael Cannon.

Cannon is an English Language Arts (ELA) teacher at Farmville Middle School in Pitt County.

Cannon’s passion for education stems from resilience and determination in his childhood. His grandparents raised him after the death of his parents.

The Jacksonville native attended Elizabeth City State University to pursue a degree in education after a principal and teacher played an integral part in life’s path.

Cannon says he is the first in his family to graduate from high school and college. He’s been teaching for almost 15 years now.

Even though he loves math, he decided to teach the subject he hated most because students he tutored in college struggled the most with reading.

Cannon says relationships and a comfortable environment are vital building blocks to his classroom and student’s success.
