Teacher of the Week: Alyssa Citero
GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - WITN is proud to highlight the incredible educators who inspire our students across the East, all thanks to your nominations. This week, meet Alyssa Citero.
Alyssa teaches 3rd-grade and 8th-grade math at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School in Lenoir County.
She is passionate about cultivating a classroom where students feel valued, supported and confident enough to take risks.
Alyssa incorporates hands-on learning, meaningful discussions and creative activities into her curriculum to encourage her students to see themselves as critical thinkers.

Alyssa holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s in special education from California State University. She is now pursuing her PhD at NC State in Elementary Education Mathematics and Science.
Alyssa also has experience working as a STEAM curriculum specialist, which she says has helped inform her approach to making learning engaging.
She not only works with students. Alyssa also facilitates several professional development workshops to support other education professionals, and she serves as a mentor for future educators.
Alyssa’s goals are to build relationships, challenge the belief that only some people are “math people,” and help every student recognize their strengths and potential.
