BERTIE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Three weeks and a day after inmates took over the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail, jail commissioners will meet to discuss what’s happening with the still-closed facility.

On June 29th, prisoners gained control of the jail, taking two detention officers hostage, while a third officer was able to escape. The SBI regained control of the lockup that afternoon, with the 88 inmates moved to state prisons.

The SBI continues to investigate the takeover, but so far, no arrests have been announced nor any updates released on the progress of that investigation.

For the regional jail commission, this will be their second emergency meeting since the jail riot. The first one was a closed-door meeting held on the day after the takeover.
