WARSAW, N.C. (WITN) - An Eastern Carolina town will soon be on the search for a new attorney after their current one is leaving.
Kennedy Thompson sent a resignation letter to Warsaw town leaders Saturday, saying remaining in the role would compromise his principles.
The attorney said in the letter that he wanted to help move the town forward, not to “become entangled in political dysfunction.”
Thompson says some of the town leadership along with an “uninformed public” have “fostered an environment of personal attacks, misinformation, social media theatrics, rumor and unnecessary drama.”
He also says town leaders were withholding information from employees, legal counsel and other elected officials which made it hard to provide competent legal advice.
“My reputation as an attorney has been built over many years on integrity, professionalism, and straightforward legal advice,” Thompson’s letter reads. “I will not compromise those principles, nor will I subject myself or my law firm to an atmosphere where professionalism is too often replaced with conflict and distraction.”
Thompson will remain in the role through July 31.
WITN reached out to Warsaw’s town manager and mayor for comment, but we have not heard back.
