FARMVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Farmville town leaders anticipate that construction on the new fire station will resume on Monday.

Farmville mayor Alex Joyner told WITN that they plan to get back to work on the new station pending final approval from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD.

Construction was paused in April after the town broke ground before completing all the necessary environmental testing.

The issue came to light during a meeting with HUD officials, and they say Farmville could not withdraw its awarded $3.7 million in funding for the project because of the mistake.

The town said it was going to pay for the already finished work with a bank loan.

Joyner says that the town submitted all the necessary documentation in May and is awaiting direction from HUD before continuing construction.
