GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The final portion of road construction on a heavily traveled section of Greenville is now back open to traffic.

The NCDOT opened the remaining portion of Dickinson Avenue to traffic on Friday.

The 1.3-mile project spanned from Highway 11 to Reade Circle. The focus of the work was to improve the storm drainage system and reduce flooding in the area.

Work began on the Dickinson Avenue project in 2022.

The road was expected to be open by the end of December last year, but it was delayed.

The DOT says that there’s still work to finish on sidewalks, landscaping, parklets at Clarke Street and Pitt Street, as well as the final surface and striping.

That work will result in daily lane closures over the next few months, officials say.

“While some sections of the project remained closed longer than originally anticipated, the project is on track to be completed this summer, as presented at the NCDOT public meeting in early 2024,” the DOT says.
