Former sheriff’s wife faces DWI and drug charges in Lenoir County
LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The wife of a former Eastern Carolina sheriff has been arrested on drug and DWI charges.
Warrants show that 64-year-old Cynthia Ingram, of La Grange, was arrested by Lenoir County deputies on Tuesday for felony trafficking opium or heroin, simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance (Xanax), driving while impaired, and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.
The sheriff’s office says that a deputy was driving behind Ingram on Hull Road and saw her driving erratically. The deputy pulled her over on Vernon Avenue near Vernon Park Mall, and a field sobriety test was conducted, which they say led to the DWI charge.
On the trafficking charge, warrants say that Ingram “feloniously did possess four grams or more, but less than 14 grams of opioid.”
The sheriff’s office says a search found several pills.
Ingram was given a $50,500 secured bond and has since been released.
Ingram is the wife of former Lenoir County Sheriff Ronnie Ingram, who served two terms in the role.
