‘Quite a few’ people stung by Portuguese Man O’ War in Emerald Isle, officials say

EMERALD ISLE, N.C. (WITN) - Officials have confirmed that there have been multiple Portuguese Man O’ War stings at Emerald Isle.

Saturday, officials at the Emerald Isle Fire Department told WITN that there have been “quite a few” stings from Portuguese Man O’ War. These stings can result in excruciating pain.

Friday, beachgoers at Emerald Isle were warned to watch out for the jellyfish-looking creatures along the beach strand, as purple flags were up to alert visitors of the potential danger.

On Saturday, the town says no Portuguese Man O’ Wars have been spotted so far.
