Truck crash during thunderstorm takes out tree, power line in Fountain

FOUNTAIN, N.C. (WITN) - A crash during a heavy thunderstorm this afternoon took out a tree and power line in one Pitt County town.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on West Wilson Street, which is also Highway 222, in Fountain.

The Fountain Rural Fire Department says it appears the pickup truck driver ran off the road during the storm and struck a tree. Firefighters say the tree then fell on the truck and took out a power line to a nearby house.

The man was taken to ECU Health Medical Center with what the fire department says were bumps, bruises, and scrapes.

One lane of the highway was shut down because of the crash. The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
