Bill would set age restrictions on THC products
RALEIGH, N.C. (WITN) - North Carolina doesn’t have age restrictions on products that have small amounts of THC, but a bill introduced this week in the General Assembly could change that.
Pitt County Rep. Tim Reeder is among the primary sponsors of House Bill 680.
THC is the active ingredient in marijuana, and it is often used in gummies, drinks, and vaping products.
If passed by lawmakers, the bill would make it illegal for businesses to sell the products without a permit, and those under 21 could not legally buy the goods.
“With the rise of unregulated hemp-derived products on the market, it’s critical that we take action to protect consumers—especially young people—from potentially harmful and untested substances,” said Rep. Reeder. “This bill ensures that these products are sold responsibly, with oversight and accountability.”
The legislation had its first reading in the House of Representatives on April 3rd and was sent to the Committee on Rules, Calendar and Operations of the House.
