2 bodies found inside freezer at abandoned townhouse after 911 caller reported seeing blood
EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX/Gray News) – The remains of two bodies were found inside a freezer in an abandoned townhome in Michigan last week, police said.
The disturbing discovery was made Thursday at a townhome in East Lansing.
Police said they were called to the home on Wintercrest Street for what they said was a “suspicious situation.”
Police said someone called 911 to report seeing blood on the floor inside the residence. When officers arrived, they confirmed also seeing blood on the floor.
While searching the home, officers found a human body inside of a chest freezer. They also found a duffel bag inside the freezer that contained the remains of a second body.
A neighbor, who did not want to be named, said the situation is “deeply troubling.”
“It’s like super disturbing to know that we’ve been sleeping a thin wall away from multiple corpses,” the neighbor said.
Officials have not identified the remains, and evidence is being examined at a crime lab.
According to police, they have no leads or suspects at this time, but they believe this is an isolated crime and there is no threat to the public.
Police are investigating the deaths as homicides.
The neighbor said he is further disturbed by the fact the home wouldn’t have come with a chest freezer in the first place.
“None of these units have giant freezers. Somebody brought a massive freezer big enough to hold two human beings in it and put it in this unit. Which is super weird,” he said.
Neighbors are also stumped because they said they thought the home was abandoned for months.
“There has been no activity in and out of this home. All the mail and stuff that was stuck in the door was in the exact same place that it’s been for months. Our doorbell camera hasn’t picked up any movement, any activity,” the neighbor said.
Anyone with any information that may assist in this incident is requested to contact the East Lansing Police Department. Tips should be directed to Detective Sgt. Nicole Mitchell at (517) 319-6876 or Detective Jason Cotton at (517) 319-6842.
