Trump heads to Iowa Thursday with new farm aid package
$8 billion in relief payments announced ahead of Sioux City, Iowa rally
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump is rolling out a new $8 billion farming package to provide one-time relief payments to farmers facing rising fertilizer and diesel costs.
The announcement comes ahead of another $26 billion bailout. $12 billion was distributed earlier this year in one-time payments, followed by a $14 billion injection two weeks ago.
The announcement comes ahead of Trump’s visit to Sioux City, Iowa, on Thursday. Iowa, an agriculture-heavy state, has felt the effects of Trump’s economic and foreign policies, including the recent importation of millions of tons of foreign beef.
New New York Times polling shows Trump’s approval rating has dropped to an all-time low of 36% with fewer than two weeks until the election.
The White House and the Republican Party is not changing its strategy heading into the midterms.
“The midterms. Historically, it’s all about turnout. So it’s turnout, turnout, turnout. And how do you do that? Well, yet you put President Trump on the ballot. You bring them front and center and you let him do what he does best,” Republican National Committee Chair Joe Gruters said.
Data from ad-tracking firm AdImpact shows less than 1 out of every 100 dollars spent on Republican ads went toward a commercial that mentioned Trump.
National polling shows the Senate race in Iowa is in a dead heat. The race for governor has raised more than $33 million in the last three months.
Trump will rally at Sioux Gateway Airport. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Central Time.
