GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - After visits from candidates including Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump, Governor Tim Walz made a stop in Eastern Carolina Thursday.
The vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor met with Pitt County Democratic Party leaders in Greenville.
Attendees say Walz encouraged voters to go door to door in Greenville to get the community involved because this election is so pivotal.
Ellie Edmonston, the Pitt County Democratic Party’s Second Vice Chair, said, “These political officials value North Carolina as a swing state. North Carolina has been red. It’s been Republican for the past eight years, and so they’re hoping that this year could be the difference and flip the electoral college.”
Greenville holds a vital role in the way the state might vote.
“We are a state that’s very important in the mix,” Pitt County Republican Party board member Jerry McRoy said, “and when you’ve got states that are very critical to the outcome, then obviously that puts us in that realm, and when you come east of Raleigh, like I said, Greenville is sort of like the hub for this region.”
Both parties agree on the importance Greenville will play in the outcome of the election, and that North Carolina could make the difference in this presidential race.
