A Heat Advisory will be in effect across the East save for the immediate coast again Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. An Excessive Heat Warning will also be in effect for Bertie, Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash, and Wilson Counties Saturday afternoon.

Temperatures will hold in the mid to upper 90s for most inland communities, making it another sweltering day throughout the area. Humidity will increase slightly as dew points climb another few degrees. Our “feels like” temperature will range between 100 to 110° during the afternoon hours. A few showers and storms will develop in the afternoon and evening, providing us with much needed rain and cooler air from aloft. Rain chances will hold around 20-30%, but the heat we see could accentuate any storms that do develop.

Cloud cover returns Sunday which will help us avoid the dangerous heat. It will be accompanied by scattered showers and storms that will be periodic through the day. Temperatures will fall into the mid to upper 80s thanks to the clouds and rain. The front responsible for the rain will stall over the Carolinas, keeping a slim chance of rain in the forecast through Thursday when another frontal boundary shows up. Cloud cover will be more sparse by Wednesday, but both Monday and Tuesday will feature mostly to completely cloudy skies. Highs will hold in the upper 80s to low 90s until Wednesday when the added sunshine pushes the mercury up into the mid 90s.

Another front will move in Thursday, kicking the previous boundary out into the Atlantic. Additional moisture along the incoming front will help increase rain chances throughout the area. While this will help with our moderate-severe drought, we’ll need a few more widespread rain events for us to catch up to our norm.
