Creswell woman charged with having gun on high school campus

TYRRELL COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Creswell woman was arrested after a hidden gun was found in her car at a high school in Tyrrell County.

Terrie Sykes, 55, was charged with felony possession of a firearm on an educational property.

On Wednesday, School Resource Officer Jason Lewis saw a suspicious car parked at the back of Columbia High School near the baseball field.

Lewis said he spoke with Sykes, the driver, who appeared extremely nervous and said that she had a concealed carry permit.

According to Lewis, a gun was found underneath the driver’s seat after Sykes told him that she didn’t have a weapon in the car.

She has posted a $500 secured bond.
