CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) - A university is mourning the sudden loss of one of its freshman football players.

According to the University of Cincinnati, Jeremiah Kelly died unexpectedly at his home in the early morning on Tuesday.

“The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man,” Cincinnati head football coach Scott Satterfield said. “In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he has made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah.”

Loved ones said Kelly died in his sleep and have since started a GoFundMe in his name to help the family.

Kelly graduated from Avon High School and helped lead their football team to a perfect 16-0 record and a state championship in 2024.

He earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors and was named the SWC Lineman of the Year as a senior.

ESPN ranked Kelly as the 45th best recruit in Ohio for the 2025 class.

Kelly had enrolled early and was already practicing with the Bearcats during the spring semester.
