Driver kills 2 people after slamming into the back of their vehicle at over 150 mph, police say
WILLIAMSTOWN, Ky. (WXIX/Gray News) - Kentucky authorities say a Cincinnati man returning from North Carolina is in jail after killing two people in a crash earlier this month.
Kentucky State Police said Jody Miller, 47, is facing several charges in connection with the deadly wreck that occurred around 11 p.m. on June 10 on Interstate 75 in Grant County.
Before the crash, a trooper said Miller drove past them going 132 mph in a 2017 BMW.
The 47-year-old did not stop after the trooper turned his emergency lights on, but instead accelerated to 153 mph, state police shared in a citation issued to Miller.
The trooper reportedly was not able to keep up with Miller before a 2013 Kia ended up being rear-ended by him.
Two people inside the Kia died, Kentucky State Police said.
Miller, who the trooper said smelled of alcohol, was removed from his vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital.
At the hospital, Miller said he was returning to Cincinnati from North Carolina, according to the citation.
Troopers said Miller told them that he had stopped at an Applebee’s in Knoxville, Tennessee, where had a shot and a beer earlier that evening.
The 47-year-old also said he stopped at a truck stop along Interstate 75.
Miller told the trooper he remembers pulling out of the truck stop parking lot, but nothing else until he was in the back of the trooper’s vehicle.
The two people killed in the crash were not immediately identified by authorities as their investigation remains ongoing.
Miller’s charges include speeding over 26 mph in a motor vehicle and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, Kentucky police said.
