Soldier Wanted For Murder In Colorado, Arrested In Greenville

Greenville Police say that an Army soldier was arrested here in the east, wanted on a murder charge out of Colorado.

Police officials say that 24-year-old Montrell Mayo of Fort Carson, Colorado was arrested Sunday afternoon. Police were contacted by law enforcement out of Colorado Springs in reference to a homicide that occurred in that city on Thursday or Friday, February 14th or 15th.

Officials say that Mayo surrendered to police at the Pitt County Magistrates office Sunday. He was served with an arrest warrant from Colorado Springs for 1st degree murder and is being held without bond pending further investigation and extradition to Colorado.

Affiliate KOAA in Colorado Springs says that charge is in connection with the death of a woman who was found in a room of the Crowne Plaza Hotel at 6:40 a.m. Sunday.

According to a Greenville Police press release, Mayo is said to be a solider in the U.S. Army, and was reported to be from Greenville and have family here.

Greenville Police detectives will be assisting Colorado Springs Police Department with their investigation, as they arrive in the next few days.
