Pitt County educators rally to demand lawmakers pass budget

With less than two weeks until school begins, educators in Pitt County are urging lawmakers to pass a budget.

About 2 dozen people gathered on the steps of the Pitt County Courthouse Saturday morning to stress to state politicians that time is running out.

Many districts have already reacted to the uncertainty, letting go of teacher assistants. A proposed budget would eliminate 8.500 teaching assistant positions. In PItt County, 11 TA's have been let go, while 9 have been let go in Beaufort County.

The rally was organized by the NC Association of Teacher Assistants.
