Jacksonville woman found dead in Cumberland County

A woman found in a wooded area in Fayetteville has been identified as a 34-year-old woman from Jacksonville, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Detectives received a call Saturday morning in reference to an unidentified African American woman being found near the 6800 block of Cedar Creek Road in Cumberland County. Hunters found the woman.

She's been identified as Maya Carlton of Jacksonville.

The body will be sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Authorities did not say if foul play was suspected.
