A man was accidentally shot following a hit and run in Kinston Tuesday night, according to police.
Officers with the Kinston Department of Public Safety were called to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and W. Vernon Avenue just before 9:30 p.m.
Police say a 20-year-old man was driving a moped when he was struck by a white or grey car. The car continued on while the man fell off of the moped. As he fell, police say the gun he was carrying accidentally went off and shot him.
The 20-year-old was transported to Lenoir Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. Police say his injuries are non-life-threatening.
Meanwhile, police are looking for the driver of the car, which they say has damage to the front of it.
