A company with more than 500 employees here in the east could be cutting a third of its workforce.
The N.C. Chamber of Commerce received "a notice of reduction of workforce" letter Wednesday from Convergys in Greenville. The letter states 163 employees could be impacted.
Management says its existing clients will end work with the corporation, effective April 9. They say they hope to place employees in other site programs and replace the departing clients with a new one to lessen the impact.
Convergys is one of Pitt County's largest employers that was established in 1999.
