A long time location for bargain shopping is set to close its doors in Greenville.
Sears Holdings says that it will be closing the Kmart located on Greenville Boulevard in mid-September.
Howard Riefs, director of public relations for Sears Holdings, says that store closures are part of a series of actions the company is taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust the company asset base, and accelerate the transformation of their business model.
The store has 75 employees. Those that are eligible will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at other area Sears or Kmart stores.
The nearest Kmarts are in Rocky Mount and Goldsboro.
Riefs says that customers with layaway contracts at the store have a couple of options: 1) Pay off the contract early, or 2) Transfer their layaway contract to a neighboring store or online.
