Former Pitt County deputy gets probation after pleading guilty to child sex charge

A former deputy sheriff and school resource officer received probation after pleading guilty to a child sex charge in a Pitt County courtroom this afternoon.

Justin Dickinson was a deputy and SRO at Farmville Central High School when he was arrested by the SBI on multiple sex charges in March.

The victim was a 15-year-old student at the high school when the offenses took place in 2011. The SBI says the former deputy and the victim had a sexual relationship that continued after she graduated from high school.

District Attorney Kimberly Robb says Dickinson videotaped the initial sex act which happened in a patrol car and then showed it to another person. She said that other person reported it.

Dickinson was originally charged with felony sexual offense with a student, felony statutory rape of a person, and indecent liberties with a child.

As part of a deal with Robb's office, he pleaded guilty to the indecent liberties charge. The judge gave him a 13 to 16 month suspended sentence, a four month active sentence and 36 months probation.

Dickinson will be freed from jail today since he was given credit for time already served. The man will have to be on the sex offender registry for at least ten years.

A tearful Dickinson spoke briefly and the father of four boys apologized to the court and his family. The victim was not in court.
