A local manufacturing plant is being recognized as a county industry of the year in Pitt County.
DSM Dyneema in Greenville received that honor Tuesday.
The Greenville site employs over 300 people, and has been operating since 2001.
The plant manufactures a special type of fiber called Dyneema, which is used in everything from commercial fishing nets to bullet proof vests.
The Pitt County Development Commission, which selected DSM, says in addition to financial investment in the area, DSM has demonstrated a commitment to the community through educational partnerships with e-ECU, as well as safety and wellness programs for employees.
Jim Lawless, DSM site director, says, "It means that what we're trying to do improve the area, improve how we work with people, is really paying off, that people are seeing it and recognizing it."
DSM was also recognized for it's efforts in sustainable manufacturing.
