BEAUFORT INLET,, NC (WITN) - Members of the U.S. Coast Guard got an up-close look at exactly what a great white shark eats for breakfast.
The crew from the Fort Macon Coast Guard Station was about eight miles south of the Beaufort Inlet Tuesday morning when they spotted the feasting.
What they captured was a great white feeding off a juvenile Minke whale.
BM1 Jeremy Ronzio, who took the pictures and video, says they estimate the shark to be about 18 feet long, while the whale was a 12-14 footer.
The North Carolina Marine Mammal Stranding Center helped them identify what type of whale it was.
