Black Friday is no longer the be-all, end-all for holiday bargains

(NBC News) It may seem as if the whole world shops on Black Friday, but a new survey by bankrate.com indicates otherwise.

"About 28% said they were going to go out and brave the crowds," said Jeanine Skowronski of bankrate.com

With retailers pushing the holiday shopping season earlier and earlier, Black Friday is no longer the only day for big bargains.

Consumers can find some of the best deals on the Monday before Thanksgiving, the weekend before Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Day.

Websites and smartphone apps can also take some of the leg work out of tracking all the sales.

Shoppers can still use apps to scan and price compare while in store, and other apps can check product reviews.

And save receipts: you may be able to get a refund from your credit card issuer if that item goes on sale.
