Coast Guard rescues elderly woman on cruise ship

An 80-year-old woman was flown to an urgent care facility after becoming sick on a cruise ship, Coast Guard officials say.

Around 1:50 Saturday afternoon, Sector North Carolina received an emergency call. A woman aboard the Carnival Pride cruise ship was having health complications.

A helicopter crew arrived around 3:15 p.m. and hoisted the woman into the helicopter.

The USCG says she was flown to Carteret General Urgent Care in Morehead City where she was most recently in stable condition.

"The cruise ship personnel were very professional and well-versed in hoisting operations, which made the evolution easier on us," said Lt. Daniel Reilly, helicopter pilot for the case.
