Coming off an undefeated opening weekend, the ECU women’s lacrosse team saw sophomore Christina White and freshman Hannah Rzempoluch earn American Athletic Conference Weekly Honors, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m proud of the individual effort each of these players has given in practice and games to start our season,” said head coach Amanda Barnes Moore.

With ECU playing its inaugural season as an independent, these weekly selections are the first for both White and Rzempoluch and are the first for the ECU program.

White was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week after earning the first two victories of her career. The Mount Airy, Md., native made a combined 26 saves in wins over Winthrop and Gardner-Webb, including an ECU record 16 in the 18-11 win over the Bulldogs. White was especially clutch in the 13-12 win over Winthrop as she made a pair of saves in the final five minutes with ECU clinging to a two-goal lead.

Rzempoluch was named the American Freshman of the Week following a strong collegiate debut. The Farmingdale, N.Y., product is third on the team after racking up seven points on three goals and four assists during the two victories. Along with her contributions in front of the goal, Rzempoluch leads ECU with nine draw controls.

Joining White and Rzempoluch in being honored was sophomore Brittany Borchers as Borchers claimed a spot on the conference’s weekly Honor Roll. Borchers currently leads ECU with 11 points on four goals and seven assists. She set a new ECU record with her four assists in the win over Gardner-Webb and her six points were just one shy of the Pirate record.

ECU returns to action this weekend as the Pirates head to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina. The game is scheduled to get underway at 12 noon on Sunday, Feb. 17.
