WITN EndZone Preview - Tarboro

CHOCOWINITY, N.C. (WITN) - With the high school football season is just 16 days away, the Costal Plains 1A Conference held its annual media day Wednesday morning at Southside High School.

Two-time defending 1AA state champion Tarboro was represented by head coach Jeff Craddock.

His team went a perfect 15-0 (6-0 conference) last season, beating East Surry 50-10 in the 1AA state championship game.

Craddock's squad will look to three-peat in 2019, but this year's team returns just three starters on offense and three starters on defense.

So Craddock expects his team to be challenged early on, but says with enough time, this Vikings team has enough talent to be dangerous later in the year.

"We've been blessed to be back-to-back state champions and that presents itself challenges because that's the expectation at Tarboro," said Craddock. "So it's going to be a challenge, but these kids are great kids. They've worked extremely hard. They're very goal-oriented. They want to continue the tradition. So I don't know how good we're going to be early but the goal is always to be great come December, so I think if we keep working every day, we have a chance to be great at the end of the year."

The Vikings open their 2019 season at home against Rocky Mount on Friday, August 23. Kickoff is currently scheduled for 7 p.m.
