GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The WITN EndZone checks in on the D.H. Conley Vikings ahead of the 2019 high school football season.
Once again, there are high expectations for the Vikings. Last season, D.H. Conley finished with a 9-4 record, falling to Cleveland in the second round of the 3AA state playoffs.
The Vikings will once again be led by quarterback Nick Hamilton, who last year took over for record-setting quarterback Holton Ahlers. He threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 38 touchdowns in 2018. Hamilton is now headed into his senior season as one of the top quarterbacks in the state.
"He's the leader of our football team in a lot of ways," said Vikings head coach Nate Conner. "Not just as the quarterback touching the ball every time. With his work ethic, he always comes in every day ready to work. So obviously that position is what everybody looks to, and the kind of character he has, and what he did on the field last year is very encouraging. Now a lot of other guys have to do their part for them to be successful. And just like last year, his success came from the ten other guys out on the field with him. But it's a great piece to start with."
The Vikings start their 2019 season on the road against Northeastern on Friday, August 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Elizabeth City.
