No. 12 ECU got home runs from Spencer Brickhouse (three-run), Bryant Packard (solo) and Jake Washer (solo), while Evan Odum tossed a career-high 3.2 innings with six strikeouts in a 9-4 win over Elon Tuesday night at Latham Park. With the win the Pirates improve to 26-10 on the year, while the Phoenix fall to 21-16.

The Pirates wasted little time in getting on the board as they scored five runs on five hits in the first frame for a 5-0 advantage. Packard and Turner Brown led off the contest with consecutive singles before Brickhouse took a first pitch offering from Mason Daniels over the right field wall for his ninth home run of the season. Two batters later, Washer belted his seventh long ball of the year, solo shot, extending the lead to 4-0. The frame kept going when Dusty Baker walked and then he took second on a wild pitch before coming home on Brady Lloyd’s RBI base knock to center.

Alec Burleson (3-1) picked up the win on a staff day allowing two runs (both earned) on four hits with three strikeouts in two innings. Cam Colmore gave up a run (earned) on three hits with a pair of punch outs in two frames, while Odum surrendered one run (earned) on one hit with a walk and six strikeouts in his best outing of the season. Sam Lanier closed out the contest working 1.1 scoreless innings where he fanned two.

Daniels (2-4) suffered the loss after he was touched for five runs (all earned) on five hits with a walk and a strikeout in one inning. Elon used four pitchers in relief getting outings from Dean McCarthy (3.0 IP, 3 Hs, 2 Rs, 2 BBs, 6 Ks), Kyle Greenler (3.1 IP, 1 BB, 3 Ks), Joe Sprake (1.0 IP, 2 Hs 1 R, 2 Ks) and Ty Adcock (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 BBs, 2 Ks).

Elon pushed across a run in the first and second innings making it a 5-2 ball game. Cam Devanney plated Tyler Stanley on a sac fly to right field for the Phoenix first run of the night. Matt Oldham’s RBI ground out scored Nick Cicci from third in the second stanza. Cicci doubled down the left field line and took third on a Burleson wild pitch.

The Pirates extended their lead, 7-2, with a pair of runs in the third. With two outs and Lloyd standing on second, Packard singled up the middle for ECU’s sixth run of the night. After Packard stole third, Brown’s RBI infield single to second easily scored Packard.

Oldham hit a solo homer to right field in the fourth inning pulling Elon within four, 7-3, but Packard’s solo blast to straight away centerfield push the score to 8-3. Devanney answered with a homer of his own in the home half of the eighth but Lloyd’s RBI single in the ninth pushed across Baker from second to cap the scoring at 9-4.

Brown (three), Lloyd (two) and Packard (three) combined for eight of the Pirates 11 hits on the night. Brickhouse drove in a game-high three runs, while Lloyd and Packard plated a pair.

Adcock and Jarrett Pico registered a pair of hits for the Phoenix, while Devanney drove in two runs.

ECU returns home for the first time in over two weeks on Thursday, April 18 when it hosts UConn in the first of three games in American Athletic Conference action. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. (ET) at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium.
