South Carolina cancels 2019 football game at ECU

Greenville -- ECU Athletic Director Jeff Compher payed a visit to Pirate Radio 1250 and 930 on Tuesday and during the station's Live at Five show, Compher announced that South Carolina will not make a trip to Greenville to play the Pirates in football during the 2019 season as originally scheduled.
The game is part of a four-game deal signed between the two schools which included last years game in Columbia. The 2019 game in Greenville, a 2020 game, still scheduled to be played in Columbia and the final game of the series scheduled for 2021 at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Compher went on to say he has had very good conversations with South Carolina Athletic Director Ray Tanner in hopes of continuing the series in the future. He also said that he believes the Gamecocks will have pay ECU a million dollar payout for cancelling the 2019 game.
The Pirates will now look for another home game to fill out the 2019 non-conference schedule.
