Player of the Week: Welton Spottsville

HAVELOCK, N.C. (WITN) – Havelock football standout Welton Spottsville is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

According to the Associated Press, the Havelock Rams are the top-ranked team in 3-A, and the senior wide receiver is a big reason why.

"I'm not going to let one or two people stop me," said Spottsville. "They're just going to have to bring the whole team. The only thing on my mind is just scoring."

The Rams are a perfect 8-0 (4-0 Coastal) and Spottsville leads the conference in receiving yards, receiving yards per game, receptions and touchdowns.

"He has really strong hands," said Havelock head football coach Caleb King. "When he's able to get to the ball and [Anthony Harris] gives him a ball that's anywhere in his radius. His catch radius is pretty big right now."

In his varsity career, Spottsville has amassed nearly 2,000 receiving yards and tallied 31 touchdowns.

In fact, he was recently named to the 2018 Shrine Bowl.

"Welton's personality is just unbelievable," added King. "He's always happy. He's always ready to go. In the weight room, whether we're running on the track, in the classroom. The teachers love him. The principal loves him. He's just so happy all the time. His attitude is just infectious to the whole team."

Spottsville verbally committed to UNC this past summer.
