Player of the Week: Traveon Freshwater

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WITN) - Northeastern football standout and ECU football commit Traveon Freshwater is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

"He brings a mental toughness, a physical toughness," said Northeastern head coach Antonio Moore. "He's an awesome guy also. When you're good people, we always stress that good things happen to you, and that's what's been happening to Traveon. He's been a good kid ever since he's been here."

Freshwater is a four-star recruit and told WITN Sports that despite the recent coaching change, he's still 100 percent committed to Pirate Nation.

"I haven't had a chance to talk to [Mike Houston], but I'm very excited to meet [his coaching staff] and hopefully change to more wins and change the program," Freshwater said.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound senior is expected to play defensive end for ECU, but Moore said: "He just can play it all. He can play anywhere we need him to play."

Freshwater and the No. 1 Eagles (14-0, 5-0) will look to win a state title for the first time in school history when Northeastern plays No. 2 Reidsville (15-0, 4-0) in the 2A state championship game Saturday at 11 a.m. inside Carter-Finley Stadium.
