Player of the Week: Rashod Smith

PINETOWN, N.C. (WITN) - Northside junior basketball standout Rashod Smith is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

Through 14 games, Smith is putting up some pretty big offensive numbers. The junior guard is averaging 29.2 points, 6.1 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.7 steals per game.

"He's not selfish on the court," said Northside basketball head coach Jared Adams. "[Smith] plays team basketball and is just a real class act on the court and off."

Smith is an extra effort type of player with an extraordinary work ethic. Back on January 18, he reached the 1,000-point milestone after dropping a season-high 40 points in a big win over Jones Senior.

"On my 1000 point night, [my teammates] just kept feeding me the ball, wanting me to hit it," said Smith. "They just played a big part."

Colleges are beginning to recruit Smith and for good reason.

The Northside Panthers return to the court Tuesday night for a tough Coastal Plains 1A road game against first-place Riverside. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
