Player of the Week: Kimani McDaniels

TARBORO, N.C. (WITN) - Tarboro football standout and 2018 1AA State Championship MVP Kimani McDaniels is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

"I leaned over and I said, 'Bud, you're stepping up!'" said Tarboro offensive coordinator Ricky Babb. "I said, 'That's exactly what we want you to do.' And [Kimani's] comment to me was, 'Coach, I can't let my seniors down.'"

The junior quarterback rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns in Tarboro's 50-10 victory over East Surrey this past Saturday in the 2018 1AA State Championship game.

"My teammates, they were just like, 'Don't be nervous,' and I was like, 'It's just a regular game to me.'"

McDaniels was named MVP after his stellar performance.

"Kimani's a playmaker," added Babb. "He's a great young man. Very coachable. Very humble. And that just speaks volumes of Kimani. He is a team player. He is a great athlete. And yes, I'm very excited to have him back [next season]."

Tarboro football has won back-to-back 1AA state titles and now has six total in school history.
