Player of the Week: Jordan Atkinson

LITTLEFIELD, N.C. (WITN) - Ayden-Grifton senior basketball and baseball standout Jordan Atkinson is our newest WITN Pepsi Player of the Week!

Atkinson reached 1,000 career varsity basketball points in a victory over North Lenoir back on Friday, January 11.

"It felt almost unreal," said Atkinson. "Just hitting a thousand because not everybody is able to do it."

"I'm very proud to see him do that," added Ayden-Grifton head basketball coach John Moye. "It's always good to see people reach goals and milestones in their life, and I think that was one for him."

The senior guard is averaging nearly 19 points per game this season, but he cares most about a trait incapable of being quantified.

"I hustle a lot, and I'm always trying to make my team better," said Atkinson. "Regardless of the score or outcome, I'm always going to be there for my teammates."

Atkinson will have new teammates next year though. He's already committed to playing baseball at Methodist University but says he'd like to try and fit basketball into his college schedule, if possible.

The Chargers (6-9) travel to Greene Central to take on the Rams (13-5) tonight at 7 p.m.
