RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team made its return to the court in dominant fashion as it defeated Chowan, 111-62, Monday night at PNC Arena. Five players posted double-digit scoring performances as 10 of the Wolfpack's players earned time on the floor in NC State's lone exhibition game.
Devon Daniels finished the night with a game-high 22 points in his first outing in a Wolfpack uniform. DJ Funderburk poured in 20 points of his own off of an impressive 7-for-7 shooting performance. Redshirt senior Torin Dorn, freshman Jericole Hellems and graduate Eric Lockett tallied 11 points each to join them in double figures.
NC State assisted on 23 of its 41 field goals, as junior Markell Johnson dished out a team-best six.
The Wolfpack maintained an aggressive style of play that has become its signature under head coach Kevin Keatts, as the Wolfpack snagged 15 steals on the way to scoring 34 points off of 24 Chowan turnovers.
The Pack jumped out to an early 10-1 lead in the first 3:41 of the game, scoring seven of its first 10 off of four Hawks turnovers. NC State carried a 61-35 lead into the break and went on to make seven of its first 10 field goal attempts in the second half to extend its lead. The Wolfpack hit triple digits, nailing its final four shots to close out the win.
NC State's 2018-19 campaign will officially begin Tuesday, Nov. 6 as the Wolfpack hosts Mount St. Mary's. The regular season opener is set to tip off at 7 p.m. inside PNC Arena.
