GREENSBORO, N.C. (ACC) - NC State’s Markell Johnson has been named the ACC Player of the Week, while Duke’s Tre Jones garnered Freshman of the Week honors.
The ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel.
Johnson scored a career-high 27 points in NC State's 78-71 win over seventh-ranked Auburn on Wednesday night. The Cleveland, Ohio, junior scored 19 of his 27 points in the second half, including 16 in the final 10 minutes of the game. The win was the first for NC State over a top-10 ranked opponent at home since beating No. 8 Kentucky, 54-51, on Feb. 2, 1986.
Jones totaled 16 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists and six steals in Duke’s wins over Princeton and Texas Tech. In Thursday’s 69-58 win over the 12th-ranked Red Raiders at Madison Square Garden, Jones had 13 points, five assists and a career-high six steals. In Tuesday’s win over Princeton, the Apple Valley, Minnesota, native had six assists with no turnovers and four rebounds in a 91-50 victory.
