J.H. Rose football picked to win Eastern Carolina 3A/4A conference title
The Eastern Carolina 3A/4A media day was held at Parker's BBQ in Greenville on Monday and the league's seven coaches selected J.H. Rose as the favorite in the preseason poll.
"We like that people respect our program and vote us that high," said J.H. Rose head coach Dave Wojtecki. "They did that last year, and I think the year before, and we didn't win either of those. It's nice that we get a lot of respect from the other coaches, but we've got to handle our business."
South Central, last year's conference champions, was picked to finish second with D.H. Conley third.
"You never know about preseason stuff," said South Central head coach Andy Tew. "That's just an idea of how everybody thinks their summer went and what roster is coming back, and I guess I appreciate that they felt that way about us, but we'll see how the season shakes out."
New Bern was picked to finish fourth, and first-year head coach Torrey Nowell is excited about the opportunity his new team has this upcoming season.
"I get to tell the guys that we have been through the highs and lows when I was down there at Pamlico, so I know what it takes to build a program up," said Nowell. "We kind of work on just being a more explosive program and just understanding that if we want to be an elite program, we have to do things an elite way."
Here's the seven team preseason coaches poll:
1. J.H. Rose
2. South Central
3. D.H. Conley
