CHARLOTTE, NC -- Former ECU head men's basketball coach Dave Odom is now a Senior Consultant for an executive search firm called Collegiate Sports Associates and although he's been linked to ECU's current head coaching search, he told WITN Saturday that he is not involved.
Dave is in Charlotte this week to support his son Ryan, who is the head coach of UMBC. During the interview, he also added that if the Pirates want to be successful at basketball, they need to make the sport a bigger priority.
"The question is always, how badly does the Pirate faithful want a basketball program," said Odom. "Hopefully the administration whenever they get them an athletic director, when they get them a basketball coach, they get started building this next layer of the program down there."
He added that the next hire should be a coach that can connect with the high school coaches in eastern North Carolina and a guy that is a "workaholic."
