ECU's Mike Houston talks N.C. State at annual Pigskin Preview

Cary, N.C. (WITN) - The 17th annual Bill Dooley Pigskin Preview kicked off today at the Embassy Suites in Cary. First-year head coach Mike Houston represented ECU football at the event.

The following five local football coaches were in attendance:

David Cutcliffe - Duke
Mike Houston - ECU
Mack Brown - UNC
Trei Oliver - N.C. Central
Dave Doeren - N.C. State

This annual event honors the legacy of Bill Dooley.

The Pirates open their 2019 season at NC State. Mike Houston was asked about the matchup, and here is what he said:

"Hopefully [ECU football] has forgotten about what that was they were doing on the field last year because it wasn't what they were really, and it's certainly not what we want to be. I think a lot of our players are very bothered about the way that game played out. It was obviously not competitive at all. I do think that fuels you a little bit during preseason camp. We do not expect to be in that kind of game in the opener. I would hope that we're going to be highly competitive. I do think it's a great measuring stick for where we are. N.C. State is going to be a very good football team this year. They're going to be one of the better teams in the ACC, so we're going to be able to find out just what we are in game one."

ECU and N.C. State meet on Saturday, August 31. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. at Carter-Finley Stadium. The game will be televised on the new ACC Network.

The Wolfpack beat the Pirates 58-3 to end the 2018 regular season.
