ECU junior Spencer Brickhouse has been named the American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week according to the league office Monday afternoon. It is Brickhouse’s first career honor and marks the fifth time this year a Pirate has earned weekly accolades from the AAC.
The Zebulon, N.C. native batted .500 (6-for-12) on the week with a pair of home runs, eight RBI and scored five runs helping No. 13 ECU to a weekend sweep of UCF in the opening weekend of conference play. He tallied a pair of game-winning RBI with his three-run home run on Saturday in the fifth inning and his solo blast on Sunday in the eighth.
Brickhouse reached base eight times in the series (two singles, one double, one triple, two homers and two walks) for a .571 on-base percentage. He registered a hit, an RBI and scored a run in all three games against the Knights and slugged a team-best 1.250.
With Brickhouse’ player-of-the-week honors, it marks the seventh time this season a Pirate has earned AAC weekly accolades following Jake Agnos (pitcher/Feb. 25), Turner Brown (honor roll/March 11), Burleson (honor roll/Feb. 18; player/Feb. 25) and Kuchmaner (pitcher/March 11; pitcher/March 18).
No. 13 ECU (18-6, 3-0 AAC) will be back in action on Friday, March 29 when it travels to USF (12-10, 1-2 AAC) for a three-game set. First pitch of the weekend at the USF Baseball Stadium is slated for 7 p.m. (ET).
