GREENVILLE, N.C. (ECU) – ECU sophomore Alec Burleson has been named the American Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Denver, N.C. native batted a team-best .583 (7-for-12) with a home run, five doubles, five RBI and five runs scored during ECU’s weekend series sweep at Cincinnati. In all three games, he tallied multiple hits, drove in at least one run (multiple twice), scored a run (multiple once) and legged out a double (multiple twice). Burleson belted his sixth home run of the season, which was a two-run shot during the Pirates’ six-run fifth inning that secured their seventh weekend series sweep of the year. On the week, he reached base nine times (seven hits, two walks), raised his batting average 16 points over the weekend from .355 to a team-high .371 while slugging 1.250 on the weekend.
With the Burleson’s honor, it marks the 14th time this season a Pirate has earned AAC weekly accolades following Jake Agnos (pitcher/Feb. 25; pitcher/April 1; pitcher/April 22), Turner Brown (honor roll/March 11), Spencer Brickhouse (player/March 25), Burleson (honor roll/Feb. 18; player/Feb. 25; honor roll/April 1, player/May 6), Jake Kuchmaner (pitcher/March 11; pitcher/March 18, honor roll/April 29), Bryant Packard (player/April 29) and Jake Washer (honor roll/April 22).
No. 8 ECU (36-11) will be back in action on Wednesday, May 8 when it travels to No. 14 UNC (34-12) for a 6 p.m. (ET) first pitch at Boshamer Stadium.
